Rostrevor Magazine 2020 -2021 / Page 25 Edward Koltun Rostrevor welcomed back 2010 Dux Edward Koltun to the College as guest speaker at February’s Dux Assembly for the Class of 2019. Edward is enjoying a distinguished career as a professional musician, playing trombone with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and other leading ensembles. Edward commenced his Rostrevor Journey as a Year 5 student in 2003. During his time at the College he was a valued member of the Music Department, performing with the Senior Band and Small Jazz Ensemble while also representing the College in Tennis and Soccer. Edward says Rostrevor’s Music Tours to Singapore and Malaysia in 2007, and Sydney in 2009, were College highlights. He also enjoyed performing with the Senior Band at World Youth Day in 2008 and participating in Generations in Jazz competitions where, in 2010, he was named a Jazz Future Finalist. During his time at Rostrevor, Edward was acknowledged both for his musical ability as well as academic achievement. He achieved a Merit for Stage 2 Music in Context while in Year 10 and a Merit in Accounting Studies in his final year. At Presentation Night, he was the recipient of the Year 10 Prizes for Australian Studies and Music in 2008 and Year 11 Prizes for Information Technology, Mathematics B and Music in 2009. In his final year at Rostrevor, Edward received the Mary Fountain Prize for Music, Year 12 Awards for Specialist Mathematics and Information Technology Studies and was named Dux of the College. A er graduating from Rostrevor, Edward went on to study classical trombone performance at the Elder Conservatorium of Music. He graduated in 2014 with First-Class Honours, receiving the Helpmann Academy’s Macquarie Award for outstanding performance. It was while studying at university that Edward was first asked to stand-in at the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and he has since gone on to play with them on many occasions. He has also played with many of Adelaide’s leading ensembles including the South Australia Police Band. Throughout his career, Edward has been fortunate enough to appear on stage with an array of artists, including John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John, Frank Woodley, James Morrison and Danny Elfman, as well as playing for a number of television broadcasts. Eric Santucci Shares Career Insights Each Year, the College invites Old Scholars to share their career experiences as part of Rostrevor’s Careers Program, which aims to help senior students with subject selection in Years 10 and 11. Last June, students were given valuable insights into a range of professions directly from Old Collegians working in sectors including Finance, Construction, Psychology and the Music Industry. Students Jackson Thomas, Hugo Shute and Hunter Elliott were joined by Ben Nelder (’13), Christian Parente (’09) and Careers Program Coordinator Belinda DeConno.
